Wrapping Up Summer & Looking Ahead

Happy Friday, friends. We made it through not just another week, but another summer. Labor Day is here, which means a short week coming up.

This past week wasn’t too bad overall — the S&P 500 closed down slightly on Friday, but still managed to finish higher for the week.

Looking ahead:

  • Tuesday looks quiet.

  • Wednesday brings the JOLTS report and the Beige Book — both worth paying attention to for insights into the labor market and broader economy.

  • Thursday has weekly jobless claims.

  • Friday wraps it up with non-farm payrolls.

All this follows today’s PCE report, which landed close to expectations. The catch? Expectations are still pointing to inflation that’s too high.

Next week’s data could give us clarity: Are we facing stagflation, or is the economy hanging in there?

But before all that, take the long weekend to recharge. Step away from the screens, fire up the grill, and enjoy the holiday. The market will be waiting for us on Wednesday.
